Inauguration Day!

Thank you to the many people who reached out to our teachers to make sure we were safe. We are indeed safe. The only protests we have witnessed have been peaceful and it was a true honor to be able to witness our right to protest done in such a peaceful way.

Today we got to go to the Orange Section in the map below called Sputh Standing.

We got up pretty early to head to the Metro. We took the Red Line from Medical Center to Metro Center then took the Orange, Blue, SV line to Federal Center SW. When we got off we headed towards the Orange section and honestly were all pretty exhausted.

We got there early but it was already pretty packed in and full of Trump gear.

We had ponchos to prepare for the rain and Ms. A have us hand warmers to help keep us warm. We were so tired and knew we needed to wait in that location for 4 hours so we laid our ponchos on the muddy ground. Sitting quickly turned to laying and before we knew it 3 of the 5 of us dozed off. Ms. A even got a quick 5 minute snooze!

The screen was challenging to see at times because there was a tree in front of it but we could hear everything very clearly. We shifted a lot so that we could see better.

It was interesting to be at the Inauguration and to see the historical traditions of the Inauguration in person. People definitely expressed their right to freedom of speech today and people supported candidates, politicians, and previous presidents. Ms. A warned us that there may be negative comments or criticism made around us of former presidents and there definitely was. We talked later in the day about the importance of respectfully expressing our political views and our hope that the country will together in a positive manner moving forward.

There were police officers, secret service, and helicopters everywhere. The helicopter before was flown in Vietnam and was going to be flown in the Inaugural Parade by a Vietnam veteran helicopter pilot.

I’m
Andres actually has better pics of the Inauguration so we will have him post them as soon as possible.

Immediately following Trump’s speech we left the lawn and headed towards the Metro. Before taking the Metro to our next adventure we stopped and had sandwiches at Potbelly. They were delicious!
